OBITUARY
ME CYRIL FLETT. [Per Press Association. — Copyright .] WELLINGTON, This Day. The death occurred yesterday of Mr Cyril Flett, who was well known in cycling circles in Wellington. He had been in poor health for some time. Mr Flett was a former Wellington track cycling champion, and a few years ago was a conspicuous rider at local sports meetings, at which he took part in some spirited contests with P. N. Robinson and other leading riders of his time. MISS AGNES MAXWELL. [Per Press Association. — Copyright .] BLENHEIM, This Day. The death has occurred of Miss Agnes Maxwell, the daughter of one of Marlborough’s earliest settlers. Her father, the late Mr John Maxwell, was responsible for the naming of one of Blenheim’s main thoroughfares, Maxwell Road, through which he was the first man to drive a bullock team. Mr Maxwell arrived in Australia from Edinburgh in 1842, and two years later came to Marlborough in charge of a shipment of Merino ewes for Sir David Monro. He was thus among the first to introduce Merino sheep to the district. He was also responsible for the discovery of Maxwell Pass. The late Miss Maxwell is survived by one brother and two sisters.
