NAVAL CRICKETERS

MATCH AT ONERAHI GOOD BAY’S OUTING. The visit of H.M.S. Leith to Whangarei is affording the personnel ample opportunity for sport. Yesterday the ship’s cricketers had their second outing, this time at Onerahi, where the local club treated them to a very pleasurable day. The match got undex’ way at 11 o clock, and a definite outcome was achieved just in time to escape the severity of the showers. The teams enjoyed sitdown luncheon in the hall, and afternoon tea in the tennis pavilion. The wives of members, and lady supporters of the Onerahi club, provided lunch, while the Tennis Club' ladies Assisted with the afternoon refreshments. Mr L. J. Broomfield, as Town Board chairman, welcomed the visitors during the luncheon interval. In the evening, the cricket club staged a dance in the hall, and the Leith's complement were invited to be guests. Mr W. Mason kindly-pro-vided transport to and fx*om the ship with his launch, Opia, and about forty sailors attended. The function was a bright success, a large number of local folk also being present. Detailed scores of the cricket match, which was won by Onerahi, are as follow; — 1 H.M.S. Leith.
