‘A DEAD DEPARTMENT’

MINISTER AND LABOUR OFFICE [Per Press Association, —copyright.} CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. “As dead as Julius Ceasar,” said the Minister of Employment, the Hon. H. T. Armstrong, describing the Labour Department, when talking yesterday with a deputation from the Women’s Unemployment Committee. The deputation had complained of interference with the committee’s work by officers of the Labour Department, and Mr Armstrong said he would be pleased to learn that there was some life in the department. He had recently come to the conclusion that the department was dead. Mr Armstrong promised the deputation that the legislation concerning unemployment relief would be overhauled soon to provide equal treatment for men and women.
