NEW YEAR TRADE IS BRIGHT

(Received 1.30 p.m.) LONDON. January 2. Wheat and wool began the New Year well, wheat futures at London jumping 2d in the first few minutes of brisk trading. The bulk rise r/as maintained, despite profit taking, Australia presently calling the tune as the only source to cheap supplies. Sellers displayed reserve, as, if the far Eastern demand for Australian wheat revives, these markets will be the shortest if prices go higher. Bradford also is optimistic. Topmakers are not seeking business, pending a testing of values next week. Spinners press for quick delivery, and they are working overtime on a fully firm market.

The Stock Exchange is cheerful, as prices are better in all departments.
