FURTHER INSTALMENT TODAY A commencement was made today with the payment of the second instalment of the Christmas bonus, which was granted by the Government to unemployed men who had been unemployed for at least 13 weeks last year, and were still on the unemployment register on. December 7 last. Before Christmas a bonus of a week’s pay, in addition to the ordinary relief or sustenance grant, was made available, and now the second instalment of an additional week and a half’s pay is being paid. The bonus varies according to the classification recipient, and it is stated that the amount being paid out today ranges from 21/, for single men, to 66/, for men with large families. The ordinary relief pay will be paid next week.
