Mr and Mrs W. A. Given, of Powhiri Avenue, left on New Year’s day on a holiday trip to Napier, Hastings and Palmerston North. They hope to visit well-known nurseries on their travels before returning to Whangarei about January 18. , x The Prime Minister, the Hon. M. J. Savage, accompanied by Mr J. A. Lee, Parliamentary Under-Secretai’y, visited the home of the Little Sisters of the Poor at Ponsonby this morning. Mr Savage’s time will be very fully occupied with public business until his return to Wellington on Sunday evening. On Sunday afternoon a Maori welcome will be extended to him in his capacity as Native Minister by the Maoris at Orakei. Mr William A. Brown, > who for the past 20 years has been in business as a jeweller at Invercargill, with Mrs Brown is paying a brief visit to the North. They had booked accommodation on the Wanganella’s New Year cruise, but when this was cancelled, decided to come North by service car. Tomorrow Mr and Mrs, Brown leave for Russell, where they \yill spend several days.

Adjutant and Mrs Armstrong, who for the past year have been in charge of the Salvation Army Corps, Whangarei, have received farewell orders, and will conduct their last services here on Sunday week, January 12. Both Mr and Mrs Armstrong have won a high place in the regard of Whangarei people, and their departure will be much regretted, not only by the members of the Salvation Army, but by the public generally.
