Use SULPHUR for Your HAIR
TT seems that of- all the beauty -*■ troubles which beset the average girl, the most common is clearly the question of dandruff and how to get rid of it. There is no use pretending that this is an easy matter. There is only one way to banish dandruff, and that is by unfailing care and attention. One treatment, and then weeks of neglect, will do no good. The great thing is, first to get rid of the unhealthy condition of the scalp by two special treatments weekly, and then to care for the hair regularly in order to keep the scalp healthy and fresh. Nothing will so surely spoil the appearance of the hair as dandruff, and its effects are more than temporary. It frequently leads to early greyness and thinness of the hair itself. Let every one of us, who has the slightest sign of this trouble, wage an offensive against it, and have glossy, shining locks which will bear the closest inspection on beach or tennis court. Sulphur is, of course, the best thing to use for these bi-weekly treatments, and it must be given time on the scalp to do its work thoroughly. Sulphur is an antiseptic, and it also opens the pores and cleanses them. It should be mixed with a lubricant such as white vaseine in the following proportions:
Powdered sulphur .. U drams. White vaseline 2 drams. Glycerine of borax . 1 dram. Night Treatment. At night the head should be gently massaged sc- as to create a certain amount of extra circulation in the scalp. Then the sulphur salve should be rubbed into the roots. A liberal amount of this soap should be .used, and plenty left on, to soak info the scalp during the night. A not-too-tight bathing cap should then be worn so as to keep the grease on, and prevent it rubbing off on to the pillow. The morning wash will need to be very thorough, as vaseline does not wash out easily, but a camphor shampoo is excellent for this. It is a wonderfully cleansing, and also helps in the general toning of the scalp, for it must not be forgotten v that dandruff usually means a sluggish condition of the hair follicles. For the shampoo, put into a quart of very hot water one ounce of camphor and one ounce of borax. Lather the head well with this and a pure olive oil soap. Wash out with hot water, and repeat the lathering and rinsing until the hair is free from all grease. To do this twice a week takes, of course, a certain amount of time and work, but it is only by some such intensive treatment that the trouble can really be banished.
Steel, when rusty, may be cleaned by giving the article a good coating of sweet oil leaving it for about two days, and then rubbing with unslaked lime.
