GAMES ON SUNDAY
DECISION AT CHRISTCHURCH “THE THIN EDGE OF THE WEDGE.” [Per Press Association. — Comiright.] CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Permission for tennis to be played on Sundays between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. on the United Club’s sports ground, situated in the Christchurch Domain, was granted by the Domain Board yesterday. It was stated that the club had been losing members through the competition of other clubs offering players the right to play on Sunday. The chairman, Mr H. Kitson, said that any applications for Sunday play from basketball, football or other clubs would have to be considered on their merits. The Hon. D. Buddo: “This is the thin edge of the wedge. If we are not careful we shall have Sunday play going on from end to end of the parks.” A member; “Why not?”
Mr W. A. Windsor; “People are much better playing a good honest game than hanging round beaches, lupin patches, and so on.”
The motion was carried with dissent.
