MR COATES ELECTED
KAIPARA FIGURES OUT IDLE RUMOURS STILLED MAJORITY INCREASED BY NEARLY 100. • All rumours which have raged.. ..around the Kaipara seat since., election night, were put at rest at 1.30 o’clock this morning, when the official recount was completed. The Right Hon. J. G. Coates increased his majority over his Independent opponent, Mr W. Grounds, from 208, as it stood on the night ot the poll, to 302. In all, over 600 absentee, postal and declaration votes were dealt with. The final figures were: Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates (NG) ... 4738 W. Grounds (I) 4 Z^6 J. W. Caughley (D) 528 Majority for Coates—3o2 No fewer than 168 votes were rejected as informal. The poll was a heavy one, 9870 out of a total of 10,804 entitled to do so, having recorded their votes.
