CHILDREN’S CAMPS
INFORMATION FOR PARENTS
The following is a copy of a letter dated 4th December, 1935, from the secretary of the Community Sunshine Association (Incorp.), received by M C. Clark, secretary of the Whangarei Health Stamp Campaign Committee: The following Children’s Camps at Motuihi have been arranged for the ensuing season: —First camp, December 18; second camp, January 8; third camp, January 30; fourth camp, February 19; fifth camp, March 11; sixth camp, April 1; seventh camp, April 22; eighth camp, May 13., One hundred and twenty-five children will be sent to each of the above eight camps. This association provides summer clothing to each child, shirt or blouse and shorts —khaki for boys and green material for girls. Each child to provide change of underclothing. The cost per child is approximately 10/ per week. All children admitted to the camps are specially selected and examined by medical officers of the Health Department, and must be school age. Six hundred children from families in poor circumstances in the city and suburbs were examined last week and selections were made for the first two camps of the season. In camps held after the school holidays we make provision for the children to attend school in the camps, the Education Department providing teachers.
