SCHOOL HOLIDAYS
POSITION IN SOUTHLAND [Per Press Association. — Copyright.} INVERCARGILL, This Day. A general statement giving the Southland Education Board’s attitude toward the granting of special holidays for children was made by the chairman, Mr F. Rice, at the monthly meeting of the board today. While appreciating to the full the visit of His Excellency the GovernorGeneral, and while the board had every sympathy with his request that school children should be granted a holiday, in view of the difficult year that has been experienced with epidemics, and in view of the number of holidays that already have been granted, it is thought inadvisable to grant the holiday this year. The chairman added that schools should be instructed that no holidays except the statutory holidays, and those at the committee’s disposal for local requirements, should be granted. It was decided to communicate with the headmasters to this effect.
