REMOVING TENSION
FRANCE AND GERMANY IGOOD WILL CONFERENCES FRIENDLY CONVERSATIONS. ; (Received: 10 ain.) ’ LONDON, November 21. The “News Chronicle's’* .Berlin correspondent says that, as the first move toward a new understanding between France and Germany, Herr Hitler had a two-hours’ conference with M. Francois Poncet, French Ambassador, in the presence of the German Foreign Minister, Baron von Neurath. A later communique announced that the conversation was of a most friendly character, and afforded opportunity of establishing the good will of both Governments. It is understood that M' Poncet yesterday received M. Laval’s instructions to make a whole-hearted effort to remove the tension between France and Germany, at which British diplomacy was also aimed. It is believed that Poncet and Herr Hitler discussed the possibility of checking the armaments race. M. Laval, in order to please Germany, has delayed the ratification of the Pranco-Russian Treaty, which M. Herriot concluded. Also he has moderated his attitude to Italy. It is expected that Herr von Ribbentrop will now visit M. Laval.
