A match between the, Marylebdne cricket team and New South Wales was commenced today ip. very sultry weather, before a very small crowd of spectators.

The visitors tyatted first, and made 260 run's. New South Wales had scored 29 for no w,ickets when play ceased for the day. Had the fieldsmen given more assistance to the local bowiers Marylebone’s score would have been even smaller. Parks, who made a number of fine cover shots, was dropped When he had scored 35. Powell had two chances before he reached his 20, and Sims and Baxter were both missed before they had scored.

The ground fielding was very ragged, a lot of runs being given away. White was the outstanding bowler, and had all the batsmen confused. Cooper, a promising fast bowler, beat the opening batsmen with his pace.

Hardstaff alone of the batsmen impressed. He used his feet well, and was not a bit afraid to lift the ball into the outfield. Marylebone’s innings lasted 245 minutes.

The New South Wales batsmen, Fallowfield and Mudge, opened slowly and unimpressively against the fast bowlers, Read and Baxter, but they kept their wickets intact.
