THIS MORNING’S WORK AT ELLERSLIE. [Spectal to “Northern Advocate.”! AUCKLAND, This Day. Weather conditions were perfect for training at Ellerslie this morning, and the going on No. 2 grass track, which was used for fast work, was excellent. The honours of the morning went to Tybalt, the Romeo gelding,

for a smart six furlongs. Overdue and Persian Lady, after running their first two furlongs in 25 4-ssec, got to the end of five in 1.7 1-5. On Parade and Whirlwind did useful tasks, but were not after time. Whirlwind has improved a good deal during the past month, and On Parade is also in good order.

Gay Marigold reeled off half a mile in 50 l-ssec. It was a smart effort, and she worked with more dash than usual. Sir Abb traversed seven furlongs in 1.32 3-5, the first half-mile taking 52 4-ssec. Radnor assisted him over the last five furlongs, which took 1.6 1-5. Fleetwind was going easily to run the. last half-mile of her work in 56 l-ssec.

Kelly worked over a round, but had no speed on till the last three furlongs, which he covered in 38sec. This horse has freshened up nicely. Marlene ran home from the three-furlong post in 40sec. She could have improved on the time. Loretta and the Vaals —Miss Melva filly were going comfortably the end of half a mile, which took 52 4-ssec. The be§t effort of the morning was recorded by Tybalt, who finished a length in front of Rereatu, with Pasha further back at the conclusion of six furlongs. He ran the first two furlongs in 23 4-ssec, three in 36sec, and the full distance in 1.15 1-5. Tybalt got a bit the better of the start. Still his performance was very attractive. ENGLISH COLT The Elderslie Stud has purchased the English colt, Solicitor-General, a son of Blandford, from a mare tracing to a sister of Cicero. As a three-year-old, Solicitor-General started seven times. After an unplaced performance he was beaten by a short head in the Tudor Stakes by Fitness. Then came a second in the Davis Stakes, 1 mile and a quarter, and a second in the Durham Plate, one mile. He then won three on end in his final starts for the season. These were the Clarence Stakes, *one mile and a half, the Newport Plate, one mile and a half, and the Hotham Plate, one mile and a quarter, with 8.4, when starting an odds-on favourite. Solicitor-General afterwards went amiss, and the Elderslie Stud* Company’s representative in England succeeded in securing the colt for stud purposes.

Quality, dam of Vintage and Lady Graceful, has been mated this season with Shambles, sire of Vintage. A two-year-old half-sister by Lord Warden to this pair is at present in Mrs J. Campbell’s stables at Riccarton, and will race as Lady Delightful. Another of the family, a yearling filly by Lord Warden is running out at her owner’s property, so that if everything goes well in the next 12 months Quality will be represented on the turf by four of her productions to date.
