WAR-TIME MINISTER DEAD

The death has occurred of Lord Carson, First Lord of the Admiralty in 1917, member of the War Cabinet without portfolio in 1917, and Lord of Appeal in Ordinary from 19/21-1929. Lord Carson was Solicitor-General for Ireland in 1892. Lord Carson was famous in Ulster and Westminster as Sir Edward Carson, leader of the Northern Ireland campaign against Home Rule. He had been in ill-health for some years past, his condition sometimes giving cause for anxiety. Lord Carson died at his home in Kent. The title becomes extinct. A message from Belfast states that the Northern Ireland Parliament suspended Standing Orders and rushed through a Bill enabling Ulster’s great leader to be given burial in Belfast Cathedral. It will be the .first interment there, also Ulster’s first State funeral.
