“WHANGAREI’S MESS”
TAXI SERVICES | | POSITION AT DARGAVILLE. i REVISION OF BY-LAWS. [Special to “Northern Advocate ”1 DARGAVILLE, This Day. The advent of “baby” taxi-cabs to Dargaville was discussed at the weekly meeting of the local borough coun- ; cil. The Mayor, Mr F. A. Jones, stated that he was of the opinion that the Borough Council should look to the J future by increasing the measure of control of the borough taxi service. “You know what a mess Whangarei has got into through lack of control, and we don’t want the same thing hapj pening here,” he said. He considered the time was opportune for a revision of the by-laws, and moved that the whole question should be referred to the legal and fiinance committee. Mr J. A. McLean, the deputy-mayor, stated that he was not inclined to agree to any control being increased over taxi operators. He considered that the mere introduction of extra service did not call for the measures proposed. “We have only taxis here, and I will not agree to anything which will hamper them,” he said. The motion to the by-laws was carried.
