LOYAL SUPPORT URGED

\ WHANGAREI CLUB OPENING OPENING OF 52nd SEASON. PLEA BY PRESIDENT. An appeal to members of the. Whangarei Tennis Club to do all in their power to help the club, was made by the president, Mr F. Higginson, at the official opening ceremony bn Saturday afternoon. In enjoining members to get into the habit of supporting the club in its efforts to provide first-class .sport, Mr Higginson said that there was far too much of the practice of leaving all the work to the few. This was not a right point of view, for the burdens of the club should be borne by all the members.

Some enthusiastic members of the club had been trying to raise' funds by various means, but the support of many of the club members had been lacking. The dances that had been organised had not been well supported, and if the committee went to the trouble of providing such entertainment, it was the- duty of members to attend. How could the club carry on without the active help of its members?

In declaring the new season open, Mr Higginson said that it was the club’s 52nd season. He hoped that the members would have a most successful season. Welcoming new members, the president said that new players were always welcome,^and he hoped that they, too, would have a most enjoyable year.
