PIG HUNT FATALITY
A MAORI’S DEATH. [Special to “Northern Advocate .”] OPOTIKI, This Day. At the inquest at Raukakore, concerning the death of Henare Rika, aged 24, on October 6, Edward Waipiti gave evidence that he accompanied deceased up the Raukokore River valley on a pig hunting expedition. Rain fell during the day, and when they returned on horseback at nightfall the river was in flood. It was necessary to cross the river several times, and, while crossing in one place,, both were swept away. Witness managed to get to the bank, but his companion disappeared. The coroner returned a verdict that deceased was accidentally drowned while attempting to cross the Raukokore River while it was in flood.
