TOLL OF THE MOTOR. BRITAIN’S ALARMING RECORD. [British Official Wireless.l (Reeclved 10.30 a.m.) RUGBY, October 18. Road accident figures in Britain for the week ending October 12 were: 129 killed and over 4000 injured. For the corresponding period last year, the figures were 131 killed and 4466 injured. Mr J. D. Simpson, joint general manager for the Ro'yal Insurance Co., in a speech last night, estimated the annual loss, due to motor accidents, at £25,000,000, and urged that on economic, no less than on humanitarian, grounds, efforts to increase the safety of the road were urgently needed.
