AN IMPORTANT MATTER.
The roads committee of the Automobile Association (Wellington) reported to the last meeting of the executive that it was concerned with a large number of cases which had been reported recently with regard to the disinclination on the part of drovers to assist motorists when passing through stock. “The committee admits at the outset that there are a certain number of motorists who are impatient when passihg through stock, but against this a large number of drovers take no action whatever towards clearing the road for vehicular traffic,” stated the report. “A recent meeting of the Farmers’ Union suggested that legislation should be introduced requiring motorists to stop on meeting any mob of cattle and then travel at a speed not exceeding five miles an hour. The committee considers that the present regulations cover the circumstances if only motorists and drovers alike, would co-operate. In view, however, of the general importance of this matter the committee suggests that it be referred to the North Island (N.Z.) Motor Union.”
