THE MAN ON THE LAND

COMMERCIAL - : WORLD WHEAT VALUES CANADIAN BOARD’S POLICY. REPORTS REFUTED. OTTAWA, October* 17. Mr John McFarland, chairman of the Canadian Wheat Board, stated today .that this week’s break in the world wheat market should not be attributed to anything done or contemplated by the board. “The sharp decline in the markets has been attributed in some quarters to heavy selling ,by the board, which would indicate that the board had decided to pursue a policy of liquidation regardless of price, and market conditions,’’ said Mr McFarland. “The board is not anxious to indulge in any argument over the origin or purpose of the statements, but it does feel that, in the interests of the Canadian producers’ trade and the public in general, that such statements should be branded as false. Since its inception the board has been a free seller at all times when there has been demand for Canadian wheat.” Mr McFarland emphasised that no action had been taken by the board to influence the market either up or down. The report of his resignation was absolutely unfounded. BANK OF AUSTRALASIA interim dividend. .[Per Press Association. — Copyright .] ' WELLINGTON, This Day.
