TRADE AGREEMENTS
LABOUR’S PRICE POLICY MR. COATES’ -TRIP IFrom Our Parliamentary Special .] WELLINGTON, This Day. Criticising Labour’s guaranteed price policy, the Hon. A. D. McLeod (Government, Wairarapa) in the House last night stated that the Leader of the Opposition, Mr. M. J. Savage, had said that trade could be controlled with other countries by agreements. New Zealand was trading with 40 countries. Did Mr. Savage think that agreements could be made by telephone in a few minutes? The Minister of Finance had left hurriedly, and it had taken him two months to make an agreement with England that was of tremendous value. If the Leader of the Opposition were called upon to make the suggested agreement, said Mr. McLeod, he wduld not be long in New Zealand, even if he were Prime Minister.
