WEEK-END IN AUCKLAND
WAIOTIRA SCHOOL PUPILS. AN ENJOYABLE TRIP. Mrs 'Crandle. head teacher at Waiotira, recently arranged si week-end in Auckland, for the senior pupils of the Waiotira School. . The party of twelve pupils, together with the. teachers, Mrs Crandle and Miss Takle, left by the Friday afternoon express' on a perfectly organised plan of travel, previously made familiar to every member of the party. At the Auckland, station Mr F. Crandle took charge of the boys who were accommodated at the Y.M.C.A. The girls in the care of Mrs Crandle and Miss Takle, went direct to the Y.W.C.A, Hostel.
The whole party, met together for dinner'and tea each day at the Y.M.p A. Great kindness was shown to the children at the respective hostels, and, in fact, at all places visited everyone did their best for the party. At the War Memorial Museum, Mr H. Falla directed the party : through the building. He showed them his exhibit of penguins, brought from the Antarctic and gave an interesting talk on the habits of penguins. The party was also privileged to see “Percy” the tuatara lizard, which has been under observation at the Museum for some thirteen years. At the zoo the elephant caused great delight when she gave a lad a surprise, by affectionately stroking his cheek. A motor drive provided by Messrs S. Takle, E. E. Kitchener, T. W. Mayson and R<s Hill proved a wonderful sight seeing trip, taking in the waterfront road to St. Helier’s Bay, Glendowie, Remuera, Ellerslie racecourse gardens, Cornwall Park and One Tree Hill, finishing with a drive to the top of, Mt. Eden.
The pupils in the party were:—Betty Sunnex, Joan Sunnex, Edith Mason. .Joyce Mason, Shirley Peters, James Peters, Howard Hilfprd, Leon' Hilford, Bruce Lane, Keith Lane, Arthur Mason, Stanley Mason.
