GIRL’S LEAP. BLAZING ROOM ESCAPE. [Special to "Northern Advocate.”! AUCKLAND, This Day. When a fire broke out in her bedroom at an apartment house in Parnell Road at about 1 o’clock this morning, Miss Mavis McCoombs, a young woman, jumped from a second story window into an alleyway below. She dropped a considerable distance, without suffering any considerable injury, apart from shock. The fire occurred in the corner of a room near her bed, and, in her excitement to get out Miss McCoombs was unable to open her door. Fearing that if she delayed she would be trapped in the flames and burnt to death, she flung open the window and jumped below. The Parnell brigade, which was quickly on the scene, affected a good save, only one corner of the room being damaged,
