Laval said: “I will do my utmost to avoid a conflict. No secret agreement exists between France and Italy to allow Signor Mussolini a free hand in Abyssinia.” A message from Ladysmith (Natal) states that the Chief Walter Kumalo, has offered to raise a picked regiment of Zulus to fight on behalf of Abyssinia, if she is attacked.
