MANGONUI . , Several private farewell parties have recently been given to Mr and Mrs | Hodgens and family, who have left loi Auckland, where Mr Hodgens will take lover charge of the Mt. Eden South police station. On Friday night oO friends gathered at the residence of Mrs C. W. Williams, Beach Road, to i honour the guests and show their ap- ! predation of their many kindly acts, | help and assistance that has always been spontaneously given. Mr Williams spoke enthusiastically ot the friendships that had been made and the enjoyment gained by association with Mr and Mrs Hodgens. He expressed regret at their departure, and extended the best wishes for the future. Mr Williams presented them with a dmner set. At the request of Mr E. Berghan, Mr Williams presented Mr Hodgens with a valuable greenstone Maori chisel, which had jeen a treasured possession of the family for some years. Mr Hodgens said that what he had done in some directions had been nothing more than a duty, and! he was touched at the expressions of goodwill towards himself and family. He regretted leaving Mangonui. <<> .<s> <s> ® Mr and Mrs A. Hodgens and family left by service car on Tuesday for Auckland. <s> 3> <*> & Mr and Mrs P. Smith and family arrived from Thames on Monday evening. and are guests at the hotel. Mr Smith, succeeds Mr Hodgens as officer in charge of the Mangonui police district. <%> <s> <S> 3> Mrs Maria, of Mould Street, accompanied by her granddaughter, Miss Nell Foster, of Pukekohe, returned to her home after several months’ absence. <S> <s> <s■ <s> AHIPARA Mr C. E. Kusabs, of Ahipara, left on Monday for Rotorua, where he will spend about a month’s holiday.
