AGREEMENT SIGNED

SUPPLY OF ELECTRICITY N.A. POWER BOARD AREA. POINTS OF DISTRIBUTION. The agreement with the Public Works Department for the supply of electric power from Arapuni to the North Auckland Power Board, has now been signed. Reporting at the meeting of the board at Dargaville yesterday, the secretary said that the Public Works Department had stipulated that the southern supply point should be located eight miles west of Maungaturoto. The board asked that in view of the prospective load on the Ruawai Flats, the southern supply point should be located as near to Ruawai as possible. As a result of negotiations between the board’s engineer and the Department the southern power supply point would be situated at • the cross-roads some three miles from Paparoa. At that point a sub-station would be erected. The northernmost supply point would be situated in the vicinity of Maungatapere. [ The completion of the agreement j with the Public Works Department was i approved, and on the motion of Messrs. Appleton, and Coates, the Public Works Department is to be thanked for meeting the requests of the board. “We have had nothing but the best of co-operation with the Public Works Department,” said the chairman, in declaring the motion carried. Main Power Line. The question whether the Public Works Department could assist the board by immediately going on with the construction of the main power line to the North Auckland Board’s area, was brought up in a letter which the chairman had addressed to the chief engineer of the department. The chairman had instanced thav in the Hawke's Bay Power Board’s area the Government had immediately put in hand the construction of the main power lines. The chief engineer replied that in the Hawke's Bay are?, the finance for the main power lines was, provided under the appropriation for the Mangahao power supply scheme. There was, however, no such vote available for North Auckland. “We might have saved from six to | nine months had the money been available,” commented the chairman. i
