Nichols (Essex) is the first player this season to take 100 wickets and score 1000 runs, F. Woolley (Kent) is the first to reach 2000 runs this summer. Results of matches commenced on Saturday are: Surrey: First innings, 550 (Sandham 107, Squires 101, Barling 168); second, 2 for 96. Hampshire; First innings, 365 (Mead 116); follow-on, 280 (Pothecary 95). Surrey won by eight wicSussex: First innings, 320 (Pearce 76); second, 3 for 100, Kent: First innings, 8 for 419 declared (Woolley 157). Kent won on the first innings. Worcester: First innings, 365 (Martin 191 not out); second, 3 for 158, declared. Northants: First innings, 233 (Howarth 5 for 45); second, 134 (Warne 5 for 53). Worcester won by 156 runs. - Glamorgan: First innings, 340 (E. Davies 155 not out); second, 251. Somerset: First innings, 342 (Mitch-ell-Innes 71, Burrough 109); second, 1 for 85. Somerset won on the first innings.
Yorkshire: First innings, 354 (Leyland 95); second, 0 for 4. Warwick: First innings, 105 (Bowes 6 for 32); follow-on, 250 (Bowes 5 for 49). Yorkshire won by 10 wickets. Derby: First innings, 156 (Read 4 for 48); second, 216 (Nichols 8 for 58). Essex: First innings, 177 (T. B Mitchell 7 for 97); second, 174 (Pope 4 for 37). Derby won by 21 runs. Middlesex: First innings, 448 (Hendren 141, Human 127); second, 2 for 131, declared. Notts: First innings, 344 (Larwood 56); second, 3 for 102. Middlesex won on the first innings. Leicester: First innings, 182 (Hopwood 5 for 34); second, 212 (Shipman 100 not out). Lancashire: First innings, 225 (Oldfield 111); second, 2 for 140. Lancashire won by 8 wickets.
