Competition Comments
By DAWNE WILLIAMS,
Age 12.
Although the Original Work competition yielded a good variety of work, the best contributions took the form of verses. “New Year,” by Nellie Harnett, Parua Bay, was a distinctly good effort, and “A River” from the pen of Trevor Port, Whangarei, age 14, was also above the average. “The Buttercup” by Flora Shankland, and “Flowers” by Dorothy Logan were also good attempts. The only short story to be included in the prize list, came from Joseph Nelley, of Poroti. To the last-named competitor and to Nellie Harnett, half-crowns have been awarded, while the other contributors mentioned above will receive book prizes. For her sketch, printed today, Dawne Williams receives a book.
