THE RAINFALL. AVERAGES OVER 18 YEARS. Mr F. Rowe, the official weather recorder at Kaitaia, supplies the following figures, giving the average rainfall in inches for each month ever a period of 18 years:—January. 3.57; February. 3.77; March, 2.96; April, 4.24; May, 6.42; June, 6.55; July, 5.75; August, 5.20, September. 5.00; October, 5.18; November, 2.82; and December, 2.79. The yearly average was 54.25 inches. Memorial Pulpit. A pulpit, as a memorial to the late Mr Bedggcod. was dedicated at St. Saviour’s Church, Kaitaia, by the Rev. Blackwood Moore. The late Mr Bedggood was for many years an ardent and consistent supporter of the church, and the rectitude of his life gained for him the respect of all creeds. He had been a member of the Kaitaia' Town Board, and was closely identified with the earlier efforts made for the advancement of the township and district. In an address suited to the occasfon, a tribute was paid to his work by Mr Moore. There was a large congregation and the singing was bright and appropriate. New Masonic Temple. The tender of Messrs. Worth and Webber, for building a new Masonic temple at Kaitaia, has been accepted. The contract price is in the vicinity of £I4OO. The building is to be of concrete, and from the plans, will have a very fine appearance, adding architecturally as well as substantially, to what the town possesses in buildings of a public and semi-public character. It will occupy a site on a large area owned by the lodge just above, and' on the same side, of Commerce 1 Street as the Central. boardinghouse. The time for starting the building has not been decided', yet, but it is to be completed within three months. Beautifying the Town. There are prospects that a muchneeded beautifying society will be formed in Kaitaia. The idea has already taken shape in the minds of a few public-spirited men, ami it should

huL be Jons before it !:;• pul into prao tiec. Such nn organisation is sadly needed, and attention has been drawn [o this by Arbor Day observation. What has been done along Church Rosd ! in the planting; of native trees, and on the golf links, has shown the way to economical town improvements which will more favourably impress visiters. There is one area, a narrow, long" reserve following the old rivercourse at the entrance to 'the town from the south, which is easy to beautify, and would repay handsomely any efforts given to its improvement. The people are becoming less casual about the appearance of the town, and it only needs a leader or two to have ideas which have been forming translated into action. Old-time Dance. A most successful function, organised by the committee supporting Miss Dolly Mclntosh, one of St. Saviour’s Queen candidates, was held in the Parish Hall on Friday evening. Mr A. E. Hcllay proved a very capable M.C., and kept things going with a swing. One of the main features 1 of the evening was a waltzing competition,'which was wpn by Mr and Mrs A. Gray. Mrs Subritzky and Mr J. Taaffe were the winners of the novelty medley, while the competitions were worn -by Mrs Subritzky and Mrs Turner. The committee intend to hold another evening in the near future. School Games. At school games at Kaitaia on Saturday, Whangape f 3) beat Kaitaia (0) in the primary football cup competition. winning the cup. In a basketball match, Kaitaia (13) beat Whangape f 10). Ahipara School, which has not lost any matches in the competition, gains the cup as a result of Saturday’s match.
