Out and About in the North
ONERAHI The fortnightly dance on Saturday, run in the Onerahi Town. Hall by the members of the .Onerahi Ladies’ Hockey Club, was again well attended. Mrs Edmunds presided at the piano. An interesting feature was the guessing' competitions, the prize for the first, a pair of ducks, being won by Mrs A. Baker, while that for the second went to Miss A. Beasley. Mr W. Spratt was M.C. 3> <S> <S> <S> <£ Mr G. W. Johnson returned from a flying visit to Auckland on Sunday night. & <s> *> <S> Wide sympathy is expressed for Master A. Baker, who broke his leg on Saturday while playing football at Jubilee Park. He is very popular among his comrades. WAIHARARA The newly-formed Waiharara Working Class Library held a dance on Saturday evening in Srhoj’s hall, to raise funds. There was a large attendance. Mr M. Srhoj was M.C. A competition for a box of chocolates was won by Mrs V. Yelavich. The Monte Carlo waltz and hat waltz were won by Miss Salle and Mr J. Stanisich, and Miss M. MarinkbviCh and Mr M. Gleason respectively. Music was provided free by the Tamburica Orchestra. <s> <J> <$- <s> <S> A meeting of members of the’ Waiharara Working Class Library was held in Srhoj’s hall, Waiharara, recently. Over 25 attended. Mr P. Bakastich was chairman. After considerable discussion, a constitution for the library was adopted, and the following were elected officers: —President, Mr P. Bakastich; vice-president, Mr M. Srhoj, jun.; secretary, Mr V. Wilcox, jun.; treasurer, Mr P. Yelavich; committee, Messrs. M. Unkovich, T. Dragiecevich, T. Loncur, and P. Job.
AHIPARA Mr A. Gamble, of Rawene, paid a short visit to Ahipara during the weekend.
BROAD WOOD Mr and Mrs Cavenay, who have been spending a short holiday with Mrs Dodds (Mrs Cavenay’s mother) at Broadwood, returned' to Auckland this week. 3> <S> <s> <S>
Mr and Mrs Eric Carmen have returned after spending several weeks in Auckland. <s.<s> <»> <£ <s> Mrs H. Martin, of Runaruna, who has been on holiday in the south, returned home this week. <s> <S> <s>
Mr F. Downey, postmaster., is still on the sick list, and confined to bed.
Mr Lord, who is relieving at the Bank of New Zealand, Kohukohu, was the guest of Mr and Mrs Winter over the week-end. <s> <§■ % <S>
Mr C. Maxwell, of Hikurangi postal staff, is spending leave with his aunt, Mrs Armstead, of Broadwood.
Mr Jim Hornell, of Auckland, is on a visit to iis parents at Newman’s Estate.
Mr and Mrs Hornell, of Newman’s Estate Settlement, gave a party to celebrate the coming of age of Louis and Jim Hornell, on August 12. The party was held in the 1.0.0. F. Hall. The evening was spent in dancing, music and games. Music was supplied by Mesdames Koss and Clem Newman, G. Hyde, S. Julian, J- Dotchin, and Miss Veda Robertson. The birthday cake was cut by the twins, the guests enjoying a generous piece. Among those present were Mesdames J. Hornell, K. Newman, C. Newman, Copeland. Salvair, Dodds, Edwards, Winter, Hyde. Emson, Conrcy, C. Harris, Grimes, Mansbridge, J. Dotchin. S. Julian; and Misses M Mooney, J. Edwards, I. Dodds, G. Mansbridge, P. Hornell. D. Mansbridge. Ashton. Grimes. Hyde. Robertson. H. Wiggins. G. Newman.
Miss Grace Newman and Mr Dave Newman, who have been holidaying in Wellington, have returned home.
Mr and' Mrs J. Dotchin have returned after spending a few weeks visiting Auckland and Cambridge.
