GROCERY SHOP MANAGERS
INTERPRETATION OF AWARD. r Per Press Association. — Convriqht.j WELLINGTON, This Day. Whether grocery shop managers in Canterbury are bound by the award covering other employees in the trade was the principal topic in the hearing of a dispute in the Arbitration Court yesterday. Decision was reserved. The applicant was the Canterbury Master Grocers’ Industrial Union of Employers. Its claims were contested by the Canterbury Grocers Assistants’ Industrial Union of Workers. The Employers’ Union claimed there was a valid separate agreement with the branch managers. This contention was opposed by the Workers’ Union. The recently-formed Canterbury Chain Stores Managers’ Union made a submission that the managers were “occupiers” of the shops, and, therefore, should not be included in the award covering assistants.
