LIGHT MACHINE GUN

NEW BRITISH RIFLE. (Received 10 a.m.) LONDON, August 11. The “Weekly Despatch” says that, after tests of five British and two foreign rifles, the War Office has adopted a new service rifle, which is of British design. It is operated by gas, is self-loading and fires 50 aimed shots a minute. Virtually it is a light machine gun. The issue of the weapons to the British forces will cost £3,000,000, necessitating a supplementary estimate.
