SYDNEY SNIPPING TROUBLE

WILL WANGANELLA SAIL? CREW GAVE NOTICE TO QUIT meeting being held today. PROSPECT OF SETTLEMENT. C United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph. — Copyright.! (Received 10 a.m.) SYDNEY, August 11. The crew of the Wanganella, while at sea on Friday night on the way to Sydney from Melbourne, notified the captain that they would tie up the vessel in Sydney today. In some circles, however, it is believed that the strike will end tomorrow. The Wanganella’s crew, in giving notice, qualified it by securing the right to reopen the whole question of the hold-up on their arrival at Sydney. The Wanganella arrived from Melbourne today. The crew will be paid off tomorrow, and a meeting of the Seamen’s . Union will be held in the morning to discuss the position. The possibility of the Wanganella getting away with the Prime Minister of New Zealand, Mr G. W. Forbes, the Maori footballers, and the New Zealand women’s hockey team on board, depends upon the outcome of that meeting. The vessel, in the meantime, is scheduled to sail at 8 p.m.

TALUNE HELD UP. Earlier advice was that the Union Company’s steamer Talune, on which the Huddiart Parker steamer Zealandia’s cargo was loaded, did not leave for Hobart yesterday. The members of the crew refused to take her to sea short-handed. On Thursday the crew gave. 24 hours’ notice, which expired yesterday. The missing members of the crew returned at 3 p.m. They obtained their clothes, and left the ship. While the captain was having a long talk with the men on the wharf, the other members of the crew left the ship. Another call for a crew was made at 3 p.m., but was unsuccessful. A call made this morning was also hopeless.
