SPECTACULAR
DUNEDIN FIRE. ERICK WALL COLLAPSES. NARROW ESCAPES. (Special to "Nort.nprn Advocate ”i DUNEDIN, This Day. A spectacular fire occurred at North East Valley, Dunedin, early on Saturday morning, when Clark’s laundry, owned by the Otago Steam Laundry and Dye Works Co., was destroyed. The fire, which sent great tongues of flame leaping skyward, was observed by thousands from the city and suburbs. The flames had a strong held when the outbreak was discovered, and although there was an adequate supply of water, and the firemen fought hard to save the building. the brigade's task was hopeless from the outset. Several firemen had a narrow escape when a large bride wall collapsed outwards and bricks were scattered around their feet. No one was injured. The building in which the laundry was housed was erected more than 60 years ago, and, with the machinery, it was a total loss. The building and its contents were insured with the Norwich Union office for ’£2ooo.
