GERMAN CRISIS ANTI-NAZI GESTURES OUTSPOKEN CLERGY. VIOLENT SCENES ENACTED,

A special correspondent of the “Manchester Guardian” in _ Berlin says the German religion crisis has reached an intensity unparalleled even in the days of Bismarck’s “kultur kamps.” Members of the Hitler Youth Organisation do not dare to parade in many of the Roman Catholic villages, and the pavements are deserted whenever a procession is held in large towns in the Rhineland and Bavaria. Captain Hauer,* leader of the NeoPagans, on visiting Munster to conduct a monster meeting, was greeted | by large crowds of Catholics and Pro- > testants singing hymns, who. escorted J him to the meeting. Neo-Pagans, however, are increasing their membership among young people. Another message from Berlin states that religious animosity is, .increasing in Westphalia. The Nazi press blames Catholic agents-provocateur among- the political Catholics. - Following upon the ban of the wearing' of uniforms, Nazis attacked the members of a Catholic patrol who were attending a funeral, stripped off their uniforms and imprisoned three who resisted. The Governor of Lower Bavaria has ordered civil servants to remove their children from Catholic schools. Several Catholic newspapers have been suppressed. Dr. Ley, speaking at Rapisbon, declared: “The Nazi party claims the , soul of every German,. and Catholicism and Protestantism does not , matter.” < ; SEIZURE OF ARMS ANTIPATHY TO JEWS. A message from Berlin says it is unofficially announced-that quantities of arms and ammunition have seized, in the homes ‘at Mecklenburg of members of the Steel Helmets Organisation. :
