THE SIKORSKY FLYING BOAT. — The. Sikorsky 542 flying boat illustrated above is the craft recommended by Sir Charles Kingsford Smith if other than land planes are to be used on the trans-Tasman service. With a range of 2000 miles at a cruising speed of 150 m.p.h.. the Sikorsky carries 21 passengers, a crew of four and nearly a ton of mail. It will take off and fly on any three of its foiir engines. The Sikorsky 542 is used by Pan- American Ainoays on the 2000-mile service between the States and Hon olulu.
