NAZI FEROCITY
WAR ON JEWS. NERVOUSNESS IN GERMANY. (Received noon.) LONDON, July 26, The Berlin correspondent of the “Daily Telegraph” says that following similar bans elsewhere in Germany, Nazi authorities have dissolved the East Prussian Steel Helmets and confiscated their property. The secret police have also proscribed, on pain of imprisonment, the wearing of uniforms and badges by Church Youth Associations during indulgence in sports, organised marching, or other group activities. The leader of the Hitler Youth Movement, Herr Franconia, has demanded that Jews be banned ■ from hostels, adding that Germans cannot be asked to sleep under the same roofs as aliens.
, -The* nervous tension that these, and similar, measures is/causing is revealed by a statement by. the Leipzig police, warning persons against disseminating rumours that prominent Nazis have been arrested.
The authorities are also worried at the rapid rise of the cost of living, and numerous butchers have been arrested for profiteering. Oftier traders have been warned that price-raising will lead to imprisonment.
POLITICAL CRISIS DUTCH MINISTRY RESIGNS. CALL ON CATHOLIC LEADER. (Received 9 a.m.) AMSTERDAM, July 26. The Queen has accepted the resignation of the Government and invited Professor Aalberse, Leader of the Catholic Party, to form a Government. THE QUEEN’S ACTIVITY. SOLUTION OF CRISIS SOUGHT. (Received 12.30 p.m.) LONDOIJI, July 26. The Hague correspondent of “The Times” reports that despite the loss of a further £3,000,000 of gold, the guilder fluctuations were very narrow. The Queen’s insistence that Professor Aalberse form a Ministry in a few days on a wide basis excludes the possibility of a simple Catholic-Socialist Cabinet, and makes Professor Aalberse’s task almost impossible. It is expected that Dr Colijn will be recalled to form a Ministry. The determination to remain on gold is stronger, and is unlikely to collapse for a few weeks. It is hoped the crisis will then be solved. Meanwhile, the Netherlands Bank is acting vigorously, and in accordance with the Queen’s wishes.
