MAN’S ESCAPE
grasped live conduit. RESCUER’S SWIFT ACTION. SYDNEY, July 24.
William Davies grasped a live electric conduit, but he was released justin time by a cook at Agapito’s cafe Parkes. Davies, who is a carpenter, was demolishing a store-room at the rear of the cafe, and, thinking that the current was switched off, grasped the conduit to pull it from a wall. His hands were wet, and he was standing on wet ground, and the full 240 volts passed through his body, making impossible for him to release his hold.
Hearing his cries, the assistant cook at the cafe rushed out, seized a crowbar, and broke the pipe, receiving a slight shock in doing so. Davies, who was black in the face, was approaching collapse, but he resumed work after a few hours.
