Thirteen competitors faced the starter in “the wheelbarrow derby” started this morning from Onehunga for Auckland.
There was a compulsory stop at Newmarket, and the' race was to be finished at a Queen Street theatre this afternoon.
Lou Brown, the well-known League footballer, upset the promoters’ calculations by covering the six miles to Newmarket in one hour. He jog-trot-ted nearly all the way.
