The Hon. T. O’Bryne, M.L.C., who was a passenger on the Monowai’s Islands cruise, left yesterday by the Limited express on his return to Invercargill.

Mr V. N. Hubble has been appointed Crown Solicitor in Auckland during the absence from New Zealand of Mr V. R. Meredith, manager of the All Black team to tour Britain.

Colonel J. N. McCarroll, of Whangarei, has been appointed a member of the North Auckland Mqrtgage Adjustment Commission, replacing Mr A. J. McKay, who recently resigned.

Mr R. B. Hart, manager of the Bank of New South Wales at Warkworth, has been transferred to a similar position at Frankton. He will be succeeded at Warkworth by Mr L. Campbell, of the Hamilton branch.

A highly esteemed priest of the Roman Catholic Mission in Samoa, the Rev. Father Bellwald, died at Pago Pago on July 7. He has been connected with the Mission of Samoa for 36 years, six of which were spent at Apia.

Mr John Mulgan, of Auckland, has been appointed to a position in the Clarendon Press (Oxford University) in Oxford. Mr Mulgan graduated at Auckland University College and has been at Merton College, Oxford, for the past two years.

Mr B. Moore, who has been a member of the Board of Managers of Trinity Presbyterian Church, Cambridge, for 31 years and church treasurer for 20 years, has resigned the offices owing to ill-health. Appreciation of his services was expressed by the Rev, A. C. McLean an°d other speakers at the annual meeting of the congregation last evening.

A public farewell was tendered at Dargaville to Sergeant G. C. Dunford, who succeeds Sergeant J. O’Brien at Devonport, and he received several gifts from the residents and licensed victuallers. Mr J. A. McLean, the Deputy Mayor, who presided, referred to the sterling qualities of Sergeant Dunford and also to the good work done by Mrs Dunford in the cause of charity.

Dr. and Mrs Lewis returned to New Zealand from London on the Doric Star, which arrived at Auckland yesterday. Dr. Lewis, who was formerly medical superintendent of the King George Hospital, at Rotorua, went to London about 18 months ago to study for the diploma in Ophthalmic medicine and surgery. Upon gaining the diploma. Dr. Lewis was appointed to the staff of the Royal Ophthalmic Hospital, Moorfield, London. Guest Lists.
