BANKS STEADY,

Business on the Auckland Stock Exchange has been well maintained over the last 24 hours and there has been a satisfactory turnover. At this morning’s call bank shares were steady, with firmness showing in Australian issues. Commercials were' quoted between 17/1 and 17/G, and New South Wales had buyers at £32 15/, with no sellei’s. Goldsboro Morts wore- in belter demand, hut buyers’ offers of 30/6 brought no response from holders.
Colonial Sugars had a sale at the new high level of £45, but at this point the rise was checked, and subsequent offers to sell at this figure were not accepted, and buyers dropped back to £44 15/. The effect of the Woolworths (N.Z.) capitalisation announcement was shown in sellers raising reserves to £l4, but buyers kept offers down to £l2. Sydneys were firm between £4 18/6 and £5 5/ and West Australians from £7 5/ to £8 5/.
As the morning proceeded orders
came in freely and a big list of sales was finalised at the noon call. Banks continued firm and Wales changed hands at £33, the highest figure for a considerable period, while Australias \vcre quoted higher between £ll 3/6 and £ll 8/. Colonial Sugars had fresh business at £45 and more available. In the insurance section. New Zcalands were closed to business with quotations at £3 7/3 to £3 7/6, In Government stocks, buyers for 55 ! s offered £ll2 and holders asked 10-' higher.
