In a match at Hawera last evening Jack Jarvis (Eltham), 9.3, beat Harry Hughes (Whangarei), 9.7, on points. It was a good contest but marred by holding. Hughes was mainly at fault. VERY SLOW CONTEST. Moulin (Canterbury), 9.12, beat Ginger Waide (Nelson), 9.13, on points in 10 rounds. The bout was so slow that at the opening of the eighth roupd the referee cautioned the men that unless the pace was -increased he would declare it no contest. NOVICE TOURNEY. RECORD NOMINATIONS. [Per Press Association. —copyright.] NAPIER, This Day. A remarkable response greeted the recent call by the Hawke’s Bay Boxing Association for nominations for a novice tourney. No fewer than 65 competitors have forwarded their nominations. This is believed to be not only a record for this province, but also for New Zealand. Such a number of entries has rarely been received for the national amateur championship.
