“LIKE A TRAITOR”

EXPORT OF ’PLANE ENGINES. LABOURITE’S ACCUSATION. LONDON, July 23. Speaking in the House of Commons today, the President of the Board of Trade, Mr Walter Runciman, said that no doubt some aeroplane engines exported for civil purposes might be put into military use. However, the Government did not propose to stop their export. Mr F. S. Cox (Labour—Nottingham): “Is the Minister aware that ignition screens sufficient to supply 3000 Germans with aeroplanes - have been sent from Britain by, one firm alone during the last six months? Will the Minister stop that?” Mr Runciman: “No.”

Mr Cox; “If the Minister is going on like that he is acting like a traitor.”

The speaker; “That finishes the question” (Laughter).
