BRIDE-TO-BE ENTERTAINED
Friends of Miss Nancy Parnell, who was married last week, gathered at her home on Thursday afternoon and presented her with a variety of gifts. Games were played and Mrs Parnell delighted the company with a monologue. Friends of Mr and Mrs Parnell and family (Mr and Mrs D. Curran, of Manawatu) arrived unexpectedly during the afternoon and were warmly welcomed by the ladies. Mrs Curran, who is a keen member of the Women’s Institute at Linton, gave a rendering of a poem (written by herself) which, has appeared in “Home and Country.” The guest of the afternoon opened the parcels and expressed her thanks to the ladies- for their gifts. A dainty afternpon tea was then served, after which photos of the company were taken as souvenirs of the occasion, for the guest to take with her to Canada. Evening Party. A surprise party was given by Miss Beryl Parnell for her sister at their home on Thursday evening. Many beautiful gifts were presented to the bride-elect by the guests. Songs, games and dancing occupied; the evening, and a very happy time was spent. Among the guests were: —Mesdames F. L. Herriott (Christchurch), J. Leatherby and Parnell, Misses Draffin, Pattinson, Webb, F. and B. Parnell, Tod (Henderson), Messrs. J. Leatherby (Whangarei), R. Webb, R. Graham, H. Harvey, T. Graham and A. Harvey.
