BOWLING CENTRE
NORTH AUCKLAND BODY ANNUAL MEETING HELD. REMITS CONSIDERED. Delegates from the Whangarei, Kensington, Dargaville, Kaitaia, Kaikohe, Kawakawa, Russell, Maungaturoto, Portland and Waipu clubs attended the annual meeting of the North Auckland Bowling Centre, held last night. In the absence of the president, Mr T. H. Wilson, who is visiting England, Mr C. V. Stringer presided until the election of Mr A. H. Curtis as the new vice-president! Mr Stringer in his report stated that during the year every club in the centre was visited by the president or some member or members of the executive. He would recommend in future a systematic visit at least once in every three years—the Northern section one year, Southern section another, and the Central section in the third year. The centre tourney paid its way, notwithstanding adverse weather, which necessitated postponements. The visit to South Auckland in February was a pronounced success in every way. Between 30 and 40 bowlers and a dozen ladies undertook the journey and were well repaid the effort and outlay. It was quite expected that on influx of visitors from other Centres would follow in the coming season as a result of this first visit to another centre. A closer bond of friendship was a certain outcome of such visits. The Auckland Centre was visited on the homeward journey.
“Changes of plans are envisaged in several notices of motion and remits before you at-this meeting .of delegates,” the report concluded, “I recommend your very careful consideration of these matters, making the closer binding of good feeling and friendship among our clubs the main and only object in view when a change (if any)
WE, WANT TO KNOW—Why the North Auckland Bowling Centre considered a remit which stated that a visiting bowler may be included in any rink, but must not skip?
is agreed upon and which ought best to be unanimous.”
Both the report and the balance sheet, the latter showing a credit balance of 12/7, were adopted. Officers and Committee. The following officers were elected:— President, Mr T. H. Wilson; vice-presi-dent, Mr A. H. Curtis; treasurer, Mr W. C. Coote; secretary, Mr A. M. Rust; executive, Messrs West, Allan, Byrne, Blanshard and King; general committee, Messrs Barnard, Langhorne, Cox, Clarke, Tibbits, Dunlop and Stork; auditor, Mr R. R. Roseman. Notices of Motion. Mr T. H. Steadman moved: “That the centre take over the control of tournaments held at Christmas, New Year, Anniversary Day and Easter. That the funds resulting from the profits thereof be divided pro rata on membership basis of all clubs in the centre entering teams for the tournaments. That clubs of 150 enter seven teams; 100, four teams; 60, three teams; 40, one team, or one team for every 20 members or fraction thereof.
The motion found practically no support and was lost. Mr C. V. Stringer then moved the following: “Suggested alterations to rules governing tournaments: Rinks from clubs within the centre must be composed of members of one and the same club. Rinks from outside the centre may be composed of three members of one club and one of another who shall not skip. A visiting bowler with the sanction of the executive of any tournament and the consent of other entrants, may be included, in any rink but must not skip.”
There was considerable discussion on this remit and eventually the next remit on the order paper was moved by Mr A. H. Curtis as an amendment. The remit read: —“Each competitor must be a bona fide ordinary or life member of a club affiliated to the New Zealand Bowling Association, or some other approved association, and any player failing to produce a certificate
to that effect (if required) will be liable to be disqualified. Rinks of the centre’s clubs should all be members of the one club or three of one and one of another who must not skip. But with the permission of the tourney executive (previously obtained), rinks (a) may be made up of members of two or more clubs, or (b) may include one honorary member if an ordinary player is not available to complete the team. Also a visitor may be permitted to play when a rink is short of a player; but in every such mixed rink the four names must be submitted to the executive for approval when entered and before being' allowed to play.
Rinks outside the centre to be four ot one club or three of one and one of another who must not skip. Honorary or associate members are not eligible for tournament play unless under aforementioned special conditions.” After further discussion, a motion that the matter be referred to the next quarterly meeting of delegates was carried.
A remit by the Portland Club to the effect that the time was opportune for an alteration in the conditions of play in the Banner competition, so that more teams could participate, was also deferred.
It was decided that all applications for tournament dates be forwarded to the secretary in time for the executive meeting in September.
