EVENTS AT CAULFIELD. I BUNSBY GAZE BEATEN. MELBOURNE, July 21. The Sydney hurdler, Sixteen Annas, was victorious in the Leamington Hurdles at the Victoria Amateur Turf Club’s meeting at Caulfield yesterday. Gay Star won the Murrumbeena Handicap, scoring by half a length from the New Zealand-bred Bunsby Gaze, who came from the rear with a great run in the final stages. The Godfrey Watson Steeplechase went to Calfly. East Cape was unplaced in the first division of the Lillimuir Two-year-old Handicap. Whernside, by Grand Knight; from Bayloch, was third in the second division of the same race, whilst Cape Horn was fourth out of 22 starters in the Kambrook Trial, and Metro was unplaced in the Malvina Welter. Leamington Hurdles, of 500 sovs; two miles one furlong and 65 yards.— Sixteen Annas, 10.2 (L. J. Hynes), 1; Akanree (Fullerton), 2; Rariclea, 9.10 (Healey), 3. Ten started, including Wurlitzer. Won by six lengths; length and three-quarters. Time—3.s94.
Murrambeena Handicap, of 500 sovs; one mile and a half. —Gay Star, 8.9 (H. Skidmore), 1; Bunsby Gaze (N.Z.bred), (Gorman), 2; Royal Armour, 9.0 (Tomison), 3. Eleven started, including Melisande. Won by half a length; a head. Bunsby Gaze came from last to second with a terrific burst of speed. Time —2.35. Godfrey Watson Steeplechase, of 500 sovs; about two miles and three furlongs.—Calfly, 9.12 (Meredith), 1; Sarno, 9,5 (Meagher), 2; Character, 9.0 (Scarlett), 3. Nine started. Length and a quarter; length and three-quar-ters. Time —4.421. MOOREFIELD FIXTURE. > GRAND DUKE A WINNER. ‘ SYDNEY, July 21. The New Zealand-bred three-year-old, Grand Duke, by Grand : Knight from Cocoanut. won the second division of the KOgarah Stakes, one mile, at the Moorefield Racing Club’s meeting yesterday. Stratosphere was unplaced in the same event. Grand Duke is a half-brother to Rulanut, winner of the Thompson Handicap. Love Song, having his first race after a spell, was third in a strong Flying Handicap field. Loud Applause was unplaced in the Maiden Juvenile Handicap, Limbohm and Jutland were unplaced in the Moorefield Handicap. After Money and Queen Helen were unplaced in the Carlton mile. AT PORT ADELAIDE. HUNTINGDON SCORES. ADELAIDE, July 21. At the Port Adelaide races yesterday the New Zealand-bred gelding Huntingdon, by Hunting Song from Arbroath, was successful in the St. Clair Hurdles. Huntingdon carried 9,10, and, ridden by Gunert, scored by a neck from Kingstol, 10,9 (Ryan), with Scutum, 10.0 (McGrath), 12 lengths away third. There were seven starters.
