BROMWICH CUP COMPETITION. - HIKURANGI BEAT TOWN TEAM., The first Association football match to be played in Whangarei for four years was decided at Kensington Park on Saturday, under the control of the North Auckland Football Association. Hikurangi United beat Whangarei in the round of the Bromwich Cup competition. The old hands who have worked for the re-establishment of the game in the North are making plaps for the. encouragement of the younger players, while holding themselves in readiness to play if required. The Hikurangi team included in its ranks three senior players—D. Hamilton, Lawson and Queripel, and the Whangarei team included F. Gardiner, R. Jennings, T. Caldwell, P. Everett and Swann, the, latter oeing an ex-New Zealand and Navy representative. A number of school boys was incorporated in the team, and among those who were in their first season, Helens and I. McDonald, of Hikurangi, and McNeil and Stewart, of Whangarei, played well. Shortly after the start Miller broke through the centre and scored for Hikurangi, but Whangarei were not long in retaliating and Swann headed the ball into the net.
