AUCKLAND, This Day. Mr L. Hodgson has lodged an appeal to the New Zealand Racing Conference in connection with the Thespis-Valpai ease. / The Hobsonville Hurdles, run at the last-meeting of the-Avondale Jockey Club, was won by Valpai, owned by Mr L. Hodgson, and ridden by Mr J. Muir, a gentleman rider, with Thespis, | owned by Mr G .Hodgson, second. Immediately after the race 'Mr G. Hodg- , son put in a protest against the first j prize being awarded to Valpai, on the j grounds, that his rider had infringed I the conditions of his amateur rider’s j license through being connected with the training of the horse. The judicial committee of the Avondale Jockeyj Club dismissed the protest, and Mr G. •Hodgson then appealed to the Auckland district committee. The latter body eventually upheld the appeal, and awarded first place to Thespis, second to St. Ames, and third to The Sun.

It is against this decision that the owner of Valpai is now appealing.

TRAINER PASSES ME T. H. PARKINSON. The death of Mr* Thomas Henry Parkinson, of Opotiki, occurred at Whakatane on Wednesday night. He had been in ill-health for several weeks. Mr Parkinson was born in Victoria 52 years ago, and came to New Zealand when a child. Subsequently he engaged in the training of racehorses, and for a number of years he was trainer for Mr R. Porter, with whom he had some good successes, winning important races with Nancy Lee and others. He is survived by four sons and two daughters.
