CARS CRASH
SEVERAL PEOPLE HURT. LSpeclal to "Nortnern Advocate.'*'! ROTORUA, This Day. A heavy service car and a threeseated private car were completely wrecked, and several persons travelling in them injured, as the result of a collision which occurred late yesterday afternoon near the 1G mile peg on the Taupo-Rotorua Road. The driver of the service car, Mr A. T. Smith, of Rotorua, and a passenger, Mr Norman Smith, a wellknown Wellington tennis [player, who was also in the front seat, were severely cud about the face and hands by flying glass, while the driver of the small car, Mr W. Angel, of Mokai, two natives, who were with him as passengers, were also cut by flying glass and suffered from shock. Five ether passengers in the rear seats of the service car escaped with a shaking. • Both vehicles were so extensively damaged that repairs will be impossible. The accident occurred on a comparatively straight stretch of road. The service car, which was proceeding from Waikaremoana to Rotorua, was jammed hard up against a bank on the left of the road, while the smaller car piled itself up against the bonnet and front seat of the larger vehicle.
It is considered that the escape of the driver and passenger in the front seat of the service* car was largely due to the fact that the force of the impact was broken to some extent by a heavy spare wheel carried on the side of the vehicle.
The injured were attended to by Dr. Hay, of Rotorua, but although Mr Angel and his companions were ordered into hospital they preferred to return to their homes at Mokai.
